Preventing and Responding to Complex Behaviours (PRCB) Training

Purpose:

To provide staff within CALHN the education and training to develop the behaviours, attitudes, knowledge and skills required to prevent and respond appropriately to people with complex behaviours.

 

Learning Intentions

  • Be able to recognise and respond to behaviours of concern
  • Understand practice governance and policy
  • Identify key legal factors that influence practice, consent and decision making
  • Explore prevention approaches, early interventions, how to escalate during an incident and processes after an incident
  • Improving situational awareness including maintaining safety
  • Intra-professional communication and engagement of multidisciplinary team
  • Explore debriefing, reporting and documentation

 

Content:

  • Person and family centred care principles

  • Self-Care
  • Trauma Informed Care
  • Professional and Legal considerations (including Mental Health Act)
  • Preventative planning, assessment and screening
  • Recognising and responding to behaviours of concern
  • De-escalation & communication strategies
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Escalation of support
  • Managing self
  • Maintaining safety - situational awareness / environmental scanning
  • Debriefing, documentation and reporting


Pre-requisites:

Participants are recommended to complete the following online modules through Learning Central (equivalent to 1- 3.5hrs)

  • Introduction to Challenging Behaviours - SA Health (highly recommended)
  • Partnering with Consumers - SA Health (recommended)
  • Minimising Restrictive Practices - SA Health (recommended)

 

Post-requisites:

Participants will identify additional online learning that may be undertaken, relevant to their clinical practice. ie Cognitive Impairment, Drug and Alcohol, Brain Injury modules available on Learning Central.


Dates

Full day professional development (Includes a review of preventing and responding to changes in a person’s behaviour indicating deterioration in mental state).
