Basic Life Support Instructors Workshop CALHN

Pre-requisites

  • Employed as a clinician within CALHN
  • Completed BLS annual update

Aim of Workshop

To provide an instructional program to formally accredit staff as in-hospital Basic Life Support Instructors within CALHN

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this Instructor program participants will able to:

  • Demonstrate BLS knowledge and skills and be able to deliver BLS updates for staff in the workplace based on the current ARC guidelines
  • Understand the role of the BLS instructor
  • Apply adult teaching principles in the instruction of BLS
  • Support staff with ethical dilemmas and debrief post resuscitation events
  • Explain and apply WHS implications and Infection Control principles

  • Role of the BLS Instructor
  • Teaching and Assessing BLS
  • Ethical Considerations
  • Care of BLS Equipment
  • WHS Considerations

Assessment Criteria  

  • Completion of the BLS Instructors workbook (to be sent prior to course).
  • Attendance at 1 day workshop
  • Supervised BLS Instruction session is to be completed within 6 weeks post workshop attendance - may be achieved at the BLS Blitz.

Pre-attendance Completion

  • Completion of BLS Instructors online module
  • Review learning resources on Learning Central – BLS Instructors Area
  • Review Australian Resuscitation Council Website Basic Life Support Guidelines
