Introduction to Shift Coordinator

Audience

Open to all CALHN Registered Nurses who are thinking about transitioning into the role of the shift coordinator or team leader in their area.

Aim
The introduction to shift coordinator program aims to provide participants with the core skills and knowledge required to transition into the role successfully.

Learning Outcomes

To enable participants to:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the shift coordinator in CALHN.
  • Have an understanding of the patient journey and how the shift coordinator plays a role in this.
  • Take the lead in a variety of different scenarios such as deteriorating patient, code black, situational monitoring and prioritisation.
  • Utilise different communication skills to manage a variety of situations such as conflict management, de-escalation and providing feedback.
  • Understand the challenges of the role and recognising the importance of debrief and reflection.
Details

Participants are required to:

  • Complete pre-program material prior to attending (approx. 2.5 hours)
  • Attend a 5.5 hour Professional Development Day  (face to face)
  • Post course reflective exercise to be submitted on learning central.

 Optional if supported: day following course to be allocated a super-nummary shift to work as a shift coordinator.
