Duration: 1-2 hours

Aim:  The Coaching and Mentoring for Success Program aims to equip health care professional with the skills, knowledge and confidence required to assist any new or less experienced staff member, students, graduates in adjusting to an unfamiliar environment.

This one-day 8-hour, high impact program is also designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of staff hoping to work in a preceptorship role. The program embeds principles of Practice Development, emotional intelligence, and relational psychology.

Learning Objectives:

On completion of the Coaching and mentoring program, the participant will be able to:

  • Define and discuss the role of preceptor & mentor.
  • Acknowledge and address challenges facing the preceptor and preceptee.
  • Recognise factors that influence learning and implement several contemporary and engaging teaching practices.
  • Develop a session plan.
  • Demonstrate and describe the impact of reflective practice.
  • Respond and resolve conflict.
  • Give effective and constructive feedback.
  • Assist preceptees in constructing learning objectives and write a professional appraisal.
  • Being able to recognize and respond appropriately to staff experiencing wellbeing concerns.
  • Create and support positive team culture.

Pre-requisites: Eligible staff are required to have a minimum of one-year post-registration experience or are supported by the line manager.
