On 1 September 2022, the new Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS) will go live across Australia. The new national system has four levels – Moderate, High, Extreme and Catastrophic – and is supported by action-oriented messages to encourage people to take action to protect themselves and others in the face of bushfire risks.

The AFDRS also introduces a new Fire Behaviour Index – a scale of fire danger that takes the latest in fire science and produces outputs across eight different fire behaviour models (compared to the existing two fire behaviour models) to support decisions about fire preparedness and bushfire suppression. As a critical tool used for emergency management planning for government agencies, an AFDRS training module has been developed to ensure all staff across the public sector understand the new system and how it is used to protect staff and community.

Social inclusion impacts on us all. All South Australians deserve a fair go – to feel valued and have the opportunity to actively participate and to prosper in our community. Improving outcomes and increasing opportunities for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LQBTIQ) people is critical: it not only benefits them but is important to the wellbeing and prosperity of the whole community. The Department of Human Services’ South Australian Strategy for the Inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer People 2014-2016 aims to enable full and safe participation in culturally inclusive services and programs. It aims to increase the awareness and education in the broader community about their issues. The training will take about 40 minutes to complete. Learning Outcomes At the end of this course you will be able to: Assist with access and inclusion. Adjust attitudes and communication. Improve the work environment and employment opportunities.
