Connecting with People - Self-Harm Awareness and Self-Harm Response Training
SA Health is leading the delivery of Connecting with People training in South Australia. Connecting with People is an internationally recognised, evidence-based suicide and self-harm mitigation and prevention training program for clinical staff.
The training is provided by accredited Connecting with People trainers to promote the provision of a standard approach to suicide mitigation and treatment across the State, as part of the South Australian Suicide Prevention Plan 2017 – 2021.
Each participant will complete ‘Connecting with People’ modules;
This module aims to encourage empathy, develop
understanding and challenge stigma.
It is suitable for all professionals and non-professional staff who have an ongoing relationship with people who self-harm and others who have an interest
> At the end of the module participants will be able to compassionately engage with people who self-harm; engage people who self-harm in harm minimisation and enable them to explore additional ways of dealing with distress
> This module aims to provide a range of tools and techniques for health practitioners and health staff, service users and carers
> It is suitable for all professionals and non-professional staff who have an ongoing relationship with people who self-harm
> At the end of the module participants will be able to understand the role of psychological therapies: use the Bank of Hope including problem-solving approach and the ABC approach and how to use it. They will understand ways to develop resilience including mindfulness approaches. Participants will understand the role of social support mapping when co-creating an immediate and long-term Safety Plan and the structure and process of experiencing the co-creating of an immediate and long-term Safety Plan.
Eligibility / Entry Requirements
This session is suitable for mental health clinical staff only who have completed the Suicide Response Modules.. Applications authorised by relevant discipline senior must be completed and forwarded to The Learning Centre.
