Management of Behaviours of Concern in the Acute Phase of Brain Injury

Introduction

This course provides you with information and strategies on how to assess and manage behaviours of concern in patients who have experienced acute Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Target audience

This course is for staff who are involved in the care of patients who have experienced TBI.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • assess the scope of behaviours of concern in patients following TBI
  • identify behaviour triggers and warning signs
  • outline non-pharmacological strategies and pharmacological management strategies for TBI behaviours of concern
  • outline communication strategies that can be implemented for TBI patients with cognitive deficits or aphasia
  • explain the use of de-escalation strategies when communicating and interacting with TBI patients.
