Child Safe Environments

Intended Audience: This course has been developed for staff to provide them with an understanding of their role in promoting and protecting children's health, safety and wellbeing. It also provides information about recognising and reporting child abuse.

Content Summary: On completion of this course you should have an understanding of:

  • collaborative practice and the importance of shared responsibility in protecting children from harm
  • a child-focused approach and how this impacts on decision making when determining whether a situation is abusive or neglectful for children
  • the impact of values and attitudes when considering if behaviour is abusive and/or neglectful for children
  • the definitions and context of what constitutes abuse and neglect
  • the knowledge and skills to appropriately respond to suspicions of abuse and neglect
  • the South Australian legislative context for reporting abuse and neglect together with the responsibilities and ethical obligations of mandated notifiers
