At the end of this course to you will:

• know what rights a patient has when accessing health care in South Australia
• know how patient rights impact on your role and be able to partner with consumers to uphold their patient rights
• apply patient-centred care principles in your role with consumers
• apply the principles of shared decision making
• identify the key elements of good communication and how it relates to patient-centred care
• apply good health literacy practice to your role in partnering with consumers to enable patients to better understand information and make informed decisions about their care and treatment
• assist patients and consumers to exercise their right to comment, provide feedback, complain or share their experience
• undertake consumer and community engagement activities.
