Safe Handling and administration of Intrathecal Chemotherapy for Medical staff
To be listed as an Authorised Practitioner on the Intrathecal Chemotherapy Register, medical staff must read the Operational Wide Instructions (OWIs):
- Read the OWI 00111 Aseptic Technique-Introduction to Principles
- Read the OWI 03227 Lumbar Puncture Procedure
- Read the OWI 03228 Intrathecal Chemotherapy: Administration of
- Read the Intrathecal Team Time out check list
And complete the following activities and do the practical assessment
- Watch the WHO Learning From Error Video
- Complete the 10 multiple choice questions – ‘Safe Handling and Administration of Intrathecal Chemotherapy Theory Questions for ALL STAFF’ Expected achievement is 100% to progress
- Download the IT Chemotherapy Protocol – medical staff from the CALHN Cancer Services Intranet page
undertake the:
- Intrathecal Practical Competency Assessment. The assessment is completed under the guidance of an IT Chemotherapy Competent/Accredited Medical Officer. The list can be found on the CALHN Cancer Services Intranet page
