Identifying and dealing with an appropriate Public Interest Disclosure (PID) for Managers and Supervisors

The Public Interest Disclosure Act 2018 (PID Act) encourages and facilitates the disclosure of public interest information to certain persons or authorities and provides protections for those who make appropriate disclosures.

This module has been developed to ensure all CALHN managers and supervisors are aware of the procedure for identifying and dealing with disclosures of public interest information which may be made to them in their capacity as a manager/supervisor.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Identify the types of disclosures covered by the PID Act.
  • Recognise whether concerns raised by a staff member may be a Public Interest Disclosure (PID).
  • Understand an employee’s rights and responsibilities in making a PID.
  • Identify what protections are provided to staff making a PID.
  • Identify what action to take when you receive a public interest disclosure from an employee.
  • Understand your responsibility as a manager/supervisor for maintaining a culture which supports the making of PIDs.
