Relevance

This course is for all SA Health employees who interact with – and/or deliver services to – patients, their families and carers. Veterans may present as patients, family members, or carers at all SA Health services including women’s and children’s services, although this might not be apparent until you ask.

Learning outcomes

By the end of course you will be able to:

• examine who can be a veteran, including their different cohorts and veteran life and culture
• identify veterans, document their veteran status, and communicate their status amongst those who interact with the patient
• recognise the impact that service in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) has on the health of veterans and their beliefs about health conditions
• determine how to work with veterans within the SA Health context
• explain the range of services available to veterans and their families.
